  • About Western Air Command
  • The source of the Western Air Command can be followed back to the incipient years of free India, when the different developments of the Air Force were composed into two gatherings. These were the No 1 Operational Group which controlled all the flying units including the flying preparing units and the No2 Training Group in charge of the whole range of preparing exercises (aside from flying preparing) in the IAF.
  • On 22nd July 1949 the No 1 Operational Group was re-assigned as the Operational Command. The Air Officer Commanding the Operational Command was then of the rank of an Air Commodore. This was moved up to the rank of Air Vice Marshal in 1958 and later to the rank of Air Marshal. The Command expected its present name of Headquarters Western Air Command on tenth June 1963, principally as a result of development of other operational summons and division of particular territories of duty.
  • Central command Western Air Command , situated at Subroto Park , New Delhi, has more than 200 bases put under its charge and has been included in every significant operation in India since freedom. Because of its geological area the Command has dependably been the center focus of all operational exercises amid any operation.
